Who is required to complete the Driver Safety program?  

Indiana state law provides that persons convicted of two or more traffic offenses within a 12-month period may be required to complete a BMV-approved Driver Safety Program (DSP). Individuals under 21 years of age are required to complete a DSP if they are convicted of two or more traffic offenses.  

A court may also require an individual to complete a DSP course and use this requirement as an alternative to suspension of driving privileges; however, the court order may not specifically require participation in a BMV-approved DSP.  

How long, after conviction, does an individual have to complete the program?  

When the BMV is notified of these convictions, a DSP course must be completed within 90 days or driving privileges will be suspended.  

How will I be informed that I must complete this course?  

Notification of this requirement is mailed from the BMV.  

Can anyone take the Driver Safety program?  

Any Indiana driver can take a DSP course. The BMV will apply a 4-point credit to an Indiana Official Driver Record for successful completion of a BMV-approved DSP. The credit may only be applied once every three years.  However, if an additional course is completed, the time period of the credit will be extended for three years from the new course completion date.  

Is there an age requirement?  

Individuals must be at least 14 years old to take this course.  

What are the benefits of completing the Indiana Driver Safety program?  

This course fulfills the Indiana 4-hour point removal curriculum for traffic violations. Completing a defensive driving course offers several benefits, including dismissing your traffic ticket, avoiding additional driving record points, and preventing increased car insurance rates.  

How long is the program?  

The program is 4 hours long.  

Is there a final exam?  

To successfully complete the course, individuals must pass a final exam with a minimum score of 80%. The final exam must be completed online. To maintain security and verify identity, participants will be asked several security questions, which must be answered correctly before taking the final exam. If you are unable to answer these questions successfully, you will be temporarily locked out of the system until you contact our office for identity verification.  

Will I receive proof that I completed the program?  

After successfully completing the course and passing your Final Exam, you will receive a Certificate of Completion via email, and we will also notify the BMV on your behalf.  

What are the computer requirements?  

To access the course, you must use a computer with internet access. Google Chrome is the recommended browser for a hassle-free experience.  

What do I do with the certificate of completion?  

Court Ordered: If the program is a court order, you will need to submit the certificate to the court that ordered you to complete the program.  

BMV Requirement: If you complete the course to fulfill a BMV requirement, we will send a certificate to the state on your behalf.  

Reduce Insurance Rates: If you complete the course to reduce insurance rates, you will need to submit the certificate to your insurance provider.  

What if I drop out or want a refund for the program? 

No refunds are issued after the start of class. All other approved refunds are subject to a $5 processing fee, can take up to 10 business days, are credited back to the card on which they were purchased and are issued only to the person who paid for the program. A full refund will be issued if All Star must cancel your course/program and cannot provide an acceptable alternative. 

*No refund is due to students who have been expelled from an All Star program. 

*There is a $30 return check fee for all returned checks.
