Finishing Driver Education is a large milestone for a teen. The process can be challenging, but when they finish, the whole world opens up to them!
Here we have a testimonial from one of our amazing students:
I wanted to share how learning to drive changed my life. My driver’s ed teacher was a huge part of the process and I am forever thankful to him! Becoming a driver is a big step for anyone, no matter their age. Although some people start driving later in life, a lot of us start when we’re teenagers. In high school, I was always jealous of my peers that had their licenses. My older sister had her license (and a car), and she was usually out doing something fun. It seemed like having a license opened so many doors. When I was sixteen, I decided I wanted to join in and start driving!
I took an informative online class and my parents helped set up behind-the-wheel lessons with an instructor. My instructor, Rasheed, was awesome. He was knowledgeable and had a positive attitude. On the first day of my behind-the-wheel training, I was terrified – being in control of such a powerful mechanical object was exhilarating and scary at the same time! Rasheed had a good sense of humor and knew how to guide me. He answered all my questions and made up fun scenarios to test my knowledge. With each lesson, I became increasingly more comfortable on the road. By the last lesson, I felt confident and ready to take my road test. I said goodbye to Rasheed and thanked him for everything – I knew that I’d never forget the person who helped me reach such a milestone in my life. Soon after my last behind-the-wheel lesson, I passed my road test at the DMV!
Fortunately, I had access to my sister’s old car. I still remember my first drive in it – I played my favorite song, gently turning the wheel as my heart raced with excitement. Driving down the street, I felt accomplished and free. Getting my driver’s license allowed me to have more freedom in my life. Instead of having to rely on my parents to take me somewhere, I could go myself. I could visit my friends, go to the store, drive myself to work, and take a short road trip.
Being able to drive changed my life and opened the doors to new possibilities. I’m thankful to everyone who was a part of the process – my parents, Rasheed, and the driver’s ed company that he worked for. Not only did learning to drive open new doors, but it made me feel more confident and ready to take on the world.
Although several people helped me become a driver, Rasheed was right there with me in the car. He is the one who truly made me feel comfortable and confident. This teacher’s appreciation week, I want to thank him for how much he helped me. Make sure to send your teachers appreciation and support, whether it be in a note, or just in your thoughts!
