What are the basic requirements to be an instructor?
You should be 21 years of age, with a valid drivers license for 5 years, 4 points of less on your driving record, clean criminal history.
What does training consist of?
You must do 32 hours of observation time in a driver education classroom, 16 hours of observation in a driver education vehicle, and teach a 2 hour block both in the classroom and the vehicle.
Besides the training, what else do you need to do to gain state certification.
You must have a physical exam, pass a background check, obtain a copy of your driving record, take a driving a written test at the BMV, take a basic instructor and a sexual harassment training online.
Where do you offer training?
We have locations all throughout metro Toledo and Columbus, we also have instructors in Celina and Cincinnati.
Is the training paid?
No, you be paid once you are able to work after gaining state certification.
What fees are involved?
Nothing is paid to All Star, the only fees you have are for your physical, background, check driving record and to the state for your initial certification. Out of pocket expenses are typically $100-$150 depending on the cost of you physical exam.
How often to you hold training?
We run new classes ever month.
Is the training difficult?
No, that being said, be sure you show up on time for each class or drive observation ready to learn.

What does the training consist of?
Driver Education Instructor training has its base in a college course and hence is quite extensive. The training includes 4 modules of 30 hours each in length with the final module being a student teaching experience.
How often do you hold classes?
We offer our Instructor Prep Program, once every quarter; typically sessions are held in the Winter, Summer and Fall.
Where do you hold your classes?
We hold classes in Grand Rapids, Berrien County, Ann Arbor and Livonia. However, we will go anywhere in the state where there are enough interested people to form a class.
What do the courses cost?
Prices may vary, typically they are around $400 per each course for a grand total of $1,600. We do however have tuition assistance and reimbursement programs available if you decide to work with us.
Can I get licensed only to do classroom or behind the wheel?
No, the state has only one certificate which enables you do teach both parts of driver education, once you are hired however, you MAY stick on one or the other if you want.
What other fees are involved?
There is a one time $50 materials fee. You will also have to pay the state of Michigan $45 for you instructor license and will have to pay to be fingerprinted and have a physical exam.
Are the courses difficult?
No, however it is very important that you show up for all class session an do the required work. if you do, you will be in good shape.
