This course fulfills the state of Minnesota’s online driver education requirement for mature drivers, encompassing 4 hours of online instruction. The 4-Hour refresher is designed for individuals who have previously completed the initial 8-Hour Mature Driver Course. 

Expectations of the Course 

The purpose of this driver education course is to equip mature drivers with the necessary information to refresh and update their driving knowledge to ensure on-road safety for the road ahead.  Improve your driving skills and get a discount on your personal car insurance.  Under Minnesota state law, individuals aged 55 and older who complete a state-approved defensive driving course are eligible to receive a 10% discount on their car insurance for three years.  For more information about your eligibility for discounts, contact your insurance agent.   

How the Class Works: 

The program consists of various modules that focus on accident prevention topics which include reading and review, videos, diagrams, and a final exam. To access your modules, select the “Class Overview” box.  The maximum daily allotted time is 4 hours.  The Final Exam can be accessed after all modules are completed.  You will not have access to modules after the Final Exam is accessed.   

Participants are allowed three attempts to pass the Final Exam, with a mandatory 24-hour waiting period between each attempt.  The minimum passing score is 80%.   To receive an insurance discount, you’ll need to provide proof of passing the All Star course. Once we’ve been notified of your passing, we will promptly provide you with the necessary documentation.

Who is eligible for Minnesota’s Mature Driver Accident Prevention 4 Hour Course?

Only licensed Minnesota residents aged 55 and older will qualify for a discount upon completion of this
course. Participants must possess a valid Minnesota Driver License and provide their license number
to enroll in this class. If you have completed the Minnesota 8-Hour Course, you are eligible to enroll in
this 4-Hour Course.

What is the purpose of an Accident Prevention program?

Accident Prevention classes are designed to teach and reinforce the rules of the road, ensuring you are
better prepared for the unexpected. The program teaches various techniques to help you become a
safer driver. Additionally, taking a defensive driving class can earn you a 3-point credit on your driving
record and potentially qualify you for a discount on your auto insurance.
All Star Driver Education offers both the initial basic accident prevention course and a follow-up refresher

continuing their defensive driving education and benefits after three years.

How do I sign up for an online class?

What happens if I fail my Final Exam?

Three attempts to pass the final exam are allowed. Individuals who fail the final exam 3 times will be

When do I get a certificate of completion?

Upon successful completion of the course and achieving a final exam score of at least 80%, the
Certificate of Completion will immediately be available for download.

How do I get a replacement certificate?
