At what age can I start Driver Education?
You can enroll in and start an All Star Driver Education program at the age of 15 years and 5 months. The steps to obtaining your license are outlined on How to Get an Ohio Driver License.
How does In-Person Driver Education work?
Students will complete 24 hours of classroom training at an All Star Driver Education center. All Star provides an engaging and educational proprietary program for this phase. After successfully completing the classroom phase of training, students can then move on to the behind-the-wheel training phase.
How long does it take to complete the In-Person Driver Education program?
The state of Ohio allows 180 days from the first day of class to complete the program requirements (class and behind the wheel). The program consists of 24 hours of classroom instruction and 8 hours of behind the wheel training. The classroom phase of training typically spans 2 or 3 weeks; class schedules vary based on location. Class schedules, which include dates and times, can be viewed on the All Star website.
Do I have to pass a test or exam?
Students must achieve a final written exam score of at least 75% to pass. No more than three attempts to pass the final exam are permitted by the state of Ohio. Students who do not pass the final exam after 3 attempts will be required to retake the classroom program at no cost.
How do I enroll in an All Star In-Person program + Behind the Wheel training?
Visit the All Star website and select a convenient location. This will be the location from which you receive your classroom and behind the wheel training. Select a program that suits your needs and carefully review the program details including the All Star location and program content. Once you have selected a program you will need to enroll. At the time of enrollment, you will need to provide payment in full. After you enroll you should receive a confirmation email which will serve as proof of your enrollment.
Do I have to take Driver Education?
Teens under the age of 18 are required to complete a Driver Education program to obtain a driver's license.
What if I do not have a Temporary Instruction Permit Identification Card (TIPIC)?
You can still enroll in the Ohio Teen Driver Education Online Only without your permit. You must, however, obtain your permit to begin behind the wheel training. To apply for your Temporary Permit, you must be at least 15 years and 6 months of age.
How do I obtain a Temporary Instruction Permit Identification Card (TIPIC)?
At 15 years and 6 months, you can complete the knowledge test online at the Ohio BMV-Online or go to any driver exam station to take the knowledge test and vision screening to begin the temporary permit process. Once the knowledge test and vision screening are passed you can proceed to a BMV deputy registrar license agency to purchase a TIPIC within 60 days of passing the test.
What if I cannot attend a class? What if I miss a classroom session?
Students can miss class if there is a valid reason. Any missed classes must be rescheduled, and students will not be eligible to take the final written exam until all rescheduled classes have been attended. To ensure a smooth learning experience, we highly recommend that students stick to the class schedule. Within a maximum of 7 business days after your class ends, our Compliance department will send you an email containing the available options for your makeup day/s.
When will my first behind the wheel lesson be?
You will begin scheduling your behind the wheel lessons after you have completed the classroom portion of your class. Your first behind the wheel lesson can be up to one month from the time you schedule. The timeframe will vary depending on the season. Scheduling for Driver Education tends to take longer during the summer months due to higher demand for services. Behind the wheel training is scheduled through the student portal.
How do I schedule the behind the wheel training?
Once the classroom phase of training has been successfully completed and the student has obtained a Temporary Instruction Permit, they can proceed to schedule their behind the wheel training on the student portal. Students must provide TIPIC information to schedule behind the wheel training on the student portal. Students are permitted 180 days, from their first classroom session, to complete the required behind the wheel training.
What do I need to bring to behind the wheel lessons?
The student must present their original Temporary Instruction Permit (TIPIC) to the instructor at the beginning of each lesson. This is a legal requirement. If you fail to bring your TIPIC the lesson will be cancelled with a late cancellation fee.
How long is each behind the wheel lesson?
Behind the wheel lessons are typically 2 hours in length. Lessons customarily start and end at the All Star Education Center which you enrolled in.
What if I have no driving experience?
All Star highly recommends that students complete at least 10-15 hours of practice driving with a parent, before they schedule lessons with an All Star instructor. Students who start their driving lessons with us, who have no previous practice, will be required to have more time between each lesson, so they can practice new skills with a parent.
What if I miss a behind the wheel lesson?
A $30 no-show fee will be assessed for each missed driving hour. Students arriving for behind the wheel training without their permit will have the lesson cancelled and will be assessed a $30 late cancel/no show fee for each hour of cancelled training.
What if I need to cancel a behind the wheel appointment in advance?
Behind the wheel training must be cancelled via the student portal. To cancel a behind the wheel lesson without incurring a $30 late cancellation fee for each hour, a minimum of 48-hour notice is required.
When will I receive my Certificate of Completion?
All classroom and behind-the-wheel training must be successfully completed to receive a Driver Training Certificate of Completion. You will receive your Driver Training Certificate of Completion no more than 10 business days from the time of your final behind the wheel lesson, your Driver Training Certificate of Completion will be emailed to you, and uploaded to your student portal.
What do I do if my certificate is lost or damaged?
Certificates of Completion are uploaded to the student portal for easy access, under the Student Files section, they are also emailed to you so you can save, and reprint as needed. (If you started class before. May 1st, 2022, a Request for Duplicate Certificate form must be completed and submitted/cost is $15).
When can I take the state required Road Test and how does that work?
The Road Test can be completed at the minimum age of 16, after the DT Certificate of Completion is received, student has logged 50 hours of driving (with 10 of those hours being at night) with a parent or guardian and held their TIPIC for at least 6 months. The OHIO BMV’s website provides a comprehensive overview of Driving and Skills Test. The Driving and Skills Test can be scheduled online through the BMV website.
What if I need more behind the wheel training than the minimum that is offered?
All Star offers a Gold and Platinum program that provides additional behind the wheel training that goes beyond the minimum state requirements. You can view all programs, locations, and prices online.
What if I drop out or want a refund for the program?
No refunds are issued after the first day of class. All other approved refunds are subject to a $5 processing fee, can take up to 10 business days, are credited back to the card on which they were purchased and are issued only to the person who paid for the program. A full refund will be issued if All Star must cancel your course/program and cannot provide an acceptable alternative.
*No refund is due to students who have been expelled from an All Star program.
*There is a $30 return check fee for all returned checks.
What if we have a snow day or inclement weather, will I still have my driving lesson?
If the school district where you are taking Driver Education has announced a snow day, All Star’s classes and behind the wheel lessons will also be cancelled. Instructors have the option to complete behind the wheel training if conditions become safe on a snow day. The instructor will contact the student/parent to discuss this option.

What is the All Star Driver Education Disciplinary Policy?
Any student violating the rules and regulations as contained in this policy will be subject to appropriate disciplinary action up to and including expulsion from the program with no refund. No refund will be issued due to disciplinary action that prevents a student from completing an All Star Driver Education course.
Prohibited acts include, but are not limited to:
Teasing, insulting, name-calling, mean or rude gestures toward peers, instructors or employees, spreading rumors or behavior that would hurt other’s feelings, swearing, taunting, ridiculing, humiliating, threatening, pushing, shoving, grabbing, spitting, sexual or ethnic harassment, stealing or extortion, fighting, kicking, punching, gang-related gestures, assault, cheating, forgery, using cell phones during instruction--Classroom, Drives & Observation, destruction of property belonging to All Star Driver Education or the facility in which classes are being held.
All Star Driver Education will expel any student who is in violation of State Laws and/or Local Ordinances which include, but are not limited to:
Abuse of fire alarms, safety equipment, bomb threats, lighting of fires or burning or attempting to burn any property belonging to the All Star Driver Education or the facility in which classes are being held or property belonging to persons employed by All Star Driver Education or attending the course, or the employees of the facility in which classes are being held. Possession, use of or threatening to use dangerous weapons such as, but not limited to: firearms, knives, iron bars, or brass knuckles. Possession, use, or threatening the use of any weapon or dangerous object capable of inflicting bodily harm including but not limited to: chains, knives, fireworks, explosives, smoke bombs, and toy weapons resembling any of the above.
