Teen Driver Education with
All Star

All Star is dedicated to supporting teens throughout their entire driver's license journey. From classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel training to obtaining a learner's permit and passing the road test, we are here to provide the resources and support necessary to succeed.

In Ohio, teens become eligible for Driver Education at the age of 15 years and 5 months old. Ohio's teen licensing process requires 24 hours of classroom/online instruction and behind-the-wheel training with a certified instructor. Classroom Instruction
The classroom portion of Ohio Drivers Ed can be taken in-person or online. This program is 24 hours.
Ohio grants students 180 days from the start date to complete the entire driver education program. A state-mandated 10-minute break is required after every two hours of online learning.

You can start All Star's online class before getting your permit, but you need it for behind-the-wheel training.

You must be 15 years and 6 months old to apply for a Temporary Instruction Permit (TIPIC). At that age, you can take the knowledge test online at the Ohio BMV website or a driver exam station. After passing the test and vision screening, you have 60 days to purchase your TIPIC at a BMV deputy registrar.

When the classroom or online phase of training has been successfully completed and the student has obtained a Temporary Instruction Permit, they can proceed to schedule their behind-the-wheel training in the student portal. Behind the wheel lessons are typically 2 hours in length. Lessons customarily start and end at the All Star Education Center which you enrolled.
The first behind the wheel lesson can be up to one month from the time it is scheduled. The timeframe will vary depending on the season. Scheduling for behind-the-wheel instruction may take longer during the summer months due to higher demand for services. Behind-the-wheel training is scheduled through the student portal.
You must bring your original TIPIC to each lesson; failure to do so will result in cancellation and a late fee.

Students must achieve a final written exam score of at least 75% to pass. No more than three attempts to pass the final exam are permitted by the state of Ohio. Students who do not pass the final exam after 3 attempts will be required to retake the classroom OR online program.

Ohio requires 50 hours of in-car practice (10 at night) before getting a driver's license. This is in addition to completing classroom and behind-the-wheel training. After turning 16, completing the required practice, and holding your TIPIC for at least six months, you can schedule your road test at an Ohio DMV.
Students must bring the completed 50 hour Affidavit Form to their Driving Test appointment.
