In order to apply for a drivers license in Indiana you must first obtain your learner’s permit. It is required for all new drivers to start with a DMV approved learners permit before applying for a drivers license. This allows the student to get driving practice on the road and in real-world situations.
If a teen is under 16 years of age they must be enrolled in a driver education and Behind-the-Wheel (BTW) course. After the student completes either an “in person” or online class, they take their completion certificate to a state approved, professional driving school to complete their BTW training.
All Star Driver Education allows students to download the certificate needed to prove they completed a driver education class as soon as they pass their final exam.
The driving instructor from the BTW school will present them with the Certification of Driver Education Enrollment (CDE form) they will need to bring to the DMV for their learners permit. They are also required to bring identification, take a knowledge based written test along with a vision screening test.
If you take one of our Indiana Driver Combo courses, students will get the CDE form from one of our All Star Driver Instructors.
A student must be 16 years of age or older to obtain a learner’s permit without enrolling in or completing a driver’s education course. They will still get their CDE form from the state approved BTW driving school where they will practice 6 hours of driving.
Once you receive your permit, you will be able to start driving with your parent or guardian
