What is No-Fault Insurance?
Michigan No-Fault Car Insurance is liability insurance that covers damages and loss of wages in a crash or collision that is covered by your plan regardless of who is at fault. Michigan is a No-Fault state, so No-Fault insurance is the only option available.
In Michigan, it’s against the law to drive without insurance. Fines, license suspensions, and even jail time are among the sanctions imposed on the uninsured.
Why do you need car insurance?
Insurance is the financial protection for crashes that result in harm to third parties or damage to their property. In Michigan, all automobiles are required to have insurance. At all times, the driver must carry or have in the automobile proof of insurance; which must be produced to law enforcement officials upon request. Additionally, when renewing their license plates, car owners must provide the Secretary of State’s office or the remitter evidence of insurance.
An insurance card that can be displayed on the driver’s cellphone or another electronic device must be provided by the insurance company to policyholders in Michigan. Both paper and digital versions of this evidence of insurance are accepted.
Fines; the inability to renew the vehicle registration, the suspension of driving rights, and the suspension of the vehicle registration are all consequences of not having the necessary insurance. False information sent to the Secretary of State’s office or a remitter in order to renew a vehicle’s registration could lead to prosecution in court and a fine.
Minimum liability insurance limits in Michigan:
- $20,000 per person bodily injury coverage
- $40,000 per crash bodily injury coverage
- $10,000 for property damage
How does car liability insurance work with teen drivers?
For more information on their existing coverage and teen drivers, parents can contact their insurance agent. Most insurance providers provide free coverage for young drivers with learner’s permits. The young driver must be insured like every other driver after they have their license, though.
A young driver can be insured in one of two ways: by being added to an existing policy or by getting their own insurance. The cost of adding a teen driver to existing insurance coverage is typically lower. If a teenager drives a vehicle covered by their parent’s insurance policy, they can continue to be covered.
How can I lower my car liability insurance?
Look for exclusive offers. Remember that certain discounts might have an impact on your coverage. Anti-theft devices, low mileage vehicles, and “Good Students” discounts (given to teenage drivers who maintain a “B” average or better) may also be eligible for reductions. Additionally, try to combine your insurance requirements to receive a better deal from your carrier.
